Perth’s First Radio Station
In 1924, Perth’s first radio station, 6WF, was established by Westralian Farmers Ltd (now Wesfarmers). The station operated and transmitted from the top storey of the Wesfarmer’s building in Wellington Street. 6WF was initially set up to broadcast market prices to farmers in remote areas of rural WA. Entertainment programs were later added to the broadcasts and the station was sold to the Australian Broadcasting Company, now the ABC, in 1927.
