The Gledden Building History

The Gledden Building is associated with Robert Gledden, a mining surveyor, property entrepreneur and philanthropist of Perth’s first gold boom, who left the land on which it is built to the University of Western Australia as part of a generous bequest in 1927.

The tower on the roof was lit up with a red light at night to act as a beacon for planes coming in to land on Langley Park adjacent to the Swan River.

The 1938 Gledden artworks featured on the ground floor arcade are a fine example of Western Australian themes.
